minimalist blog/unpopular rant of the day no.2

December 22, 2004

I have repressed these things I feel for far too long. It's eaten me up inside, plagued me in the burning noontime July sun, tortured me in the depths of wintry night. James Taylor makes my flesh crawl. His voice completely defeats my will to live. There, I've said it.

Amen. I hate James Taylor too.

I applaud your courage, Nikki. Too long have the aging hippie bourgeois elite brainwashed and shamed us into worshipping James Taylor and his syrupy, overly-sedated, "look at me, I'm an important songwriter", Kermit the Frog-on-methadone-with-a-sinus-infection sound.

Who should we target next?

John Denver. Justin Timberlake. Billy Ocean.

OK,John Denver is tricky because he was dead, but to be fair, the treacle-y feel is there. I would have to consider him to be not quite as insidious a musical contagion than j.t.

um. the other night, at shannon's house, i sang "rock your body", and i sort of... liked it. i'm feeling conflicted. fortunately, he doesn't really qualify for this list - many hate him, and we're more concerned with those musicians that have achieved hands-off saint-like status.

leave billy o alone. just an island boy trying to get his.

ok, actually, no, he very self-consciously sold crap and tried to make it more interesting by saying - "hey, look at me, I'm from the caribbean." was he even really from the caribbean? anyone?

Posted by: Rob at December 27, 2004 08:05 PM

well, crap. thanks a lot, hedy, now i'm singing "caribbean queen."

Posted by: Rob at December 27, 2004 08:07 PM

Ha Ha. He is actually from the Carribean, amazingly enough. And, when considering cutting him slack, let's not forget his gut renching version of "Suddenly" that has plagued the earth for years.

Ok, I know John is dead and he was a nice peaceful nature man and all but his songs are so much more irritating than nearly any on the planet (with the possible exception of Joanie Mitchell and Bobby McFerrin)

If you are wavering on Timberlake, may I suggest listening to N' Sync "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You" before he is deleted from your list.
